I believe that it is fine to acknowledge and cater to social norms of fashion as long as it doesn't get in the way of higher things, such as:
-living within your means
-spending quality time with family
-doing what God wants you to do
-healthy self-image developed independent of what we wear
And rather than what someone wears defining them, I believe it is how they wear it that defines them.
A simple peasant may carry themselves like someone of true nobility in their simple garb, and the fanciest clothes in the world cannot hide a diseased soul.
